ONA is excited to celebrate National Nurses Month in May! The impact you make on health care is unparalleled. Nurses Month is a month-long celebration allowing for greater opportunities to promote understanding and appreciation of the invaluable contributions of nurses like you!

You truly make a difference by influencing and shaping health policy decisions that ensure all Americans have access to high-quality, affordable healthcare coverage. Nurses provide unwavering commitment to patients, their communities, and our health care system.

The Nurses Month theme, “You Make A Difference,” includes weekly themes encouraging nurses to prioritize self-care, be recognized for the critical work they do, excel in their nursing careers, and educate the community on the vital role of nurses.

You can participate throughout the month by sharing photos of you and colleagues participating in Nurses Month on social media, tagging tagging ONA (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram), and using #NursesMonth2023! Each time you share a photo online, you will be entered to win $50 off a future ONA event or a certificate for Bala Shoes!

Watch for an email the beginning of each week in May for more information about that week's theme and how you can celebrate! For more information about what ANA is planning for this month, visit the ANA website.

Let’s celebrate Nurses all May long!

Nurses Month: Week 1 - Self-Care

It’s the first week of Nurses Month! This week, we are encouraging nurses to prioritize self-care. This can mean engaging in healthy activities targeting both your body and mind. Consider participating in Terra Firma, a multi-dimensional, research-based approach that helps you turn off your stress, feel better, be healthier, and build a strong foundation from which you can thrive.

Nurses Month: Week 2 - Recognition

Welcome to the second week of Nurses Month! This week the focus is on recognition of the great work nurses do every day. You can raise the visibility of nurses and foster greater understanding of the diversity of the nursing profession by honoring exemplary nurses and engaging with your community. ONA received a proclamation from the Oklahoma Governor, Kevin Stitt declaring May as Nurses Month! You can view the proclamation here.

Nurses Month: Week 3 - Professional Development

It’s week three of Nurses Month! This week nurses are encouraged to focus on how they can excel in their nursing career and/or help other nurses in their professional journey. Set a goal to attend at least two professional development sessions, such as a free webinar: Asking and Advocating for What Nurses Need on May 17 at noon EST, or one of several of ANA’s free webinars from the Navigate Nursing series.

Nurses Month: Week 4 - Community Engagement

It’s the final week of Nurses Month! This week’s theme is community engagement, and you can be an advocate for the nursing profession in your state by participating in the legislative process. Visit ONA website for more information on how to get started and to keep up to date on legislation affecting nursing in Oklahoma. You can also visit ANA’s Policy & State Government Affairs program which monitors trends in nursing-related legislation in the states.
